  • Finishing touch

    Finishing touch

I watch you brush your hair so gently
With one straight motion, from up to down
With every caress you tease my senses
As I look into your deep blue eyes

You twirl your fingers as you try to make up
    Your mind above everything else
Why, that layer of rouge on your rosy cheeks
A radiant blossom on a winter night

You apply a swish of purple haze
With a glint of glitter on your skin
    Together with the blackest black
Of your eyelashes; so perfectly thin

The reddest red of your lips so moist
Makes me feel like I want to kiss them
    So tempting, playful, fascinating
A dazzling sight for wanting eyes

And as you add another finishing touch
Stroke by stroke; you fail to realize
That beauty’s not defined by what you just made up
But lies in the eyes of the beholder.

  • Stuck in a rut

    Stuck in a rut

A lot of days just pass by
    Put though the grind
    They’re days of thoughtless actions
    Without much heart or mind

How cheaply we seem to live our life
And some of us don’t even care
It’s funny how we just don’t have
The time to stand and stare

Some have never read a book
They say they’re just too busy
Some prefer to work on weekends
No time to savor a melody

We choose to spend our day to simply
    Plan some more despair
When all we need are quiet times
    To reflect and repair

Oh what I’d give to spend a day
To just laze around in bed
To release the million thoughts I have
    Flowing in my head

Or look at some old photographs
Or just stay home and cook
Or spend time with a young loved one
Or unwind with a good book

Alas, I’m a prisoner of my own routine
My mind feels caged; closed shut
And like a zombie I live my life
    Stuck in a rut

  • Echo

    Living in the shadows
    Armed with past glories
Trying to seek the light of truth
    But hiding from emptiness within
    Yet all you can manage
    As hard as you try
    Is to clutch at nothingness;
Only a mirage in your hollow mind

You think the seeds of the future
    Lay buried in the past
    But that’s not true;
It is what you want it to be
Not what it has to be.

    It’s no use
    Thinking, reminiscing
It won’t bring back loved ones from the dead
    It won’t ease the pain
And won’t get you back up on your feet

    So wake up
    Before it’s too late
The bus is about to leave you behind
Let go of what you think
    Defines you
    Because it does not.

Your past is just that; the past
It’s only an echo of good things gone by
    A past that’s forgotten
    Is best,
Because it doesn’t heal the wounds
    Only delays the present.

  • Feeling the moonlight

    Feeling the moonlight

    I sometimes wonder to myself
Does not the moon get lonely?
To be sitting up there in the night
Looking down, so bright and lovely

He must be looking at our cities
Electric lights, like small stars twinkle
I think he must be getting jealous
    As our fireworks sparkle

And then I see it; the little game
He plays with the clouds, his friends
A childish game of hide and seek
    As tranquility ascends

And there she is! the lovely star
Like a diamond in the sky
She shines so sweetly, bright and young
    The jewel of his eye

The fireworks stop, but the sky still shines
The moon so full and bright
And not one, not two, but a billion stars
They make the black go white!

He’s not alone, he makes it known
    To my wonderful delight
I just sit and take in all the beauty
    While feeling the moonlight.

  • All that matters

    Every once in a while
    Comes a time
When two pairs of eyes meet
    With gazes locked and loaded
And each pair sees their world
In the mirror that is the other pair

    Every once in a while
    Comes a time
    When distance doesn’t matter
    When two hearts speak
    And the silence is pierced
    By two harmonious heartbeats

And the feel of their breath
    On your skin so tantalizing
That you can only find forever
In the comfort of their arms

    So often we say
    That fairy tales are hokum
    Or that it happens only in movies;
    That a true happy ending
    Is always elusive
Even to those who seek it dearly

But then why does it happen
That every once in a while
    The heart stops just for a moment;
The mind spins ever so slightly
And the sudden rush of blood
Makes you feel like you’re falling
    Head over heels

    Every once in a while
    Comes a time
    When distance doesn’t matter
    And all time stands still
    When something just clicks
    And all that matters
Is the love in the air.

  • A place for two

This used to be a place for two
Where I’d sit and look into your deep blue eyes
And seem to lose track of all time

    Where conversation had new meaning
We’d roam the depths of life together
Hand in hand, day by day
Where I’d hear your voice right next to me
And lay eyes upon your face
While watching your expression as you watched mine

Where I’d rest my eyes upon your wonderful smile
That curve that sets a lot of things straight
And melts my heart like a hot knife through butter

And where even silence had substance
Where our eyes did the talking
And ears could hear only the sound of soft breaths
And the occasional sigh of love

But where did it all change?
Where did it all go wrong?
For now I only see myself
Looking back at me, in the gleaming glass
On the face of my phone, waiting, wishing
If I’d only hear your voice once again
But instead I hear annoying beeps
Or pings, or dreary tones banal
Those keep me awake at night

The heart longs for human touch
But all it gets is steel, plastic and glass
    And the waiting, the anticipation
That something will happen; might happen
    The mind is hopeful
    The heart filled with desire

And finally, it beeps! This lifeless contraption
    Has finally come alive
You send me your picture; my hearts sings with joy
I know it’s just a picture, but it warms me inside
I finally see you; oh how long I have waited
To gaze again into those deep blue eyes
My eyes can’t get enough of you
Of your face, your radiant beauty
Until all I can see is my own reflection
    As the back light dies
Just like the battery is about to.

We were supposed to be closer
With technology, connected at all times
Then why does it feel different; alone,
All alone in this place for two.

  • Live like you mean it

    Don’t cry over spilt milk
Or worry about what could have been
A missed opportunity is not the end of the world
Only a humble beginning of what’s in store
Have hunger to complete what you began
Nothing is ever a lost cause
    ‘Cause you believe in it
And are willing to fight for it.

Not everyone sees life in a single way
There will be naysayers and critics all around us
Mocking our every move, taunting our every breath
But learn to ignore them, to feed from them
And move on anyways; onwards to glory
    To finish what you started
To bring to fruition what can and what will be
To fight for what is right
Because you live life only once.

So live like you mean it.
    Live your life properly
    Because when judgment day comes
And you queue up to meet your maker
When all time is standing still
And the gatekeeper has one question to ask you
    Was your life worth it?
Then you have one, only one answer
You bellow at the top of your voice
“I can’t wait to do this again”.

  • Incomplete

Why did you have to go so far away?
All I needed was one chance
A chance to make “us” work
A chance to do things differently

I can’t tell you how much I’ve been missing you
    Not just your laugh
    Not just your warmth
But you, every bit of you

It’s been days since we last talked,
    Months since our first kiss,
    Years since we’d first met.
I’d known then that you were the one,
And you took my heart away with your smile

I’d gotten used to seeing forever,
In that twinkle in your eyes
But now my past, my present, my future,
    Don’t matter anymore

This distance is killing me, eating me alive, tearing me apart.
It feels like a noose tied around my neck, tightening day by day
I feel empty, like something’s missing
A part of me taken away

    Without you, I’m just…

    Incomplete.

  • Getting started

One look was simply not enough; he had to look at her once more
For the beauty that sat at the other side, was one he’d never seen before

He didn’t know just how and when, he’d get another chance
He felt his young heart skip a beat, when he tried to sneak a glance

She looked along in his direction, and found his gaze collide
She felt a shiver through her body, a spark she couldn’t hide

She tried to speak; no words came out, she seemed to lose her voice
And in that moment passing by, their eyes had made a choice

This is how their journey began, light-headed and wholehearted
Their fleeting gaze so magical; their love’s just getting started.

He still looks at her that very way, though both of them are older
For he knows, that beauty lies, in the eyes of the beholder

His eyes are dim, his teeth are bare, and he’s weaker in the knees
And her hair so gray, so graceful, simply flying in the breeze

She knows that he’s the only man, who can love her most of all
And he knows he’s made the right choice, no more in love he could fall

They sit together quietly, not reminiscing the past
They know that there aren’t many days, left for them to last

And yet they sit there, engrossed, light-headed and wholehearted
Their fleeting gaze still magical; their love’s still getting started.

  • My morning cup

    My morning cup

    Waking up every morning
The sight of you comforts me
I could smell you from a distance
A reason to smile, to reach out

Your fragrance teases me, tempts me
    Pushes me beyond the edge
Heightens my senses, now sharp as ever
    Ready for an epic battle

And as I see your golden body
    Merge with the milky white
Making heart shapes on your surface
    With a creamy texture

And the taste lingers on my tongue
    Ever so slowly it grows
    The bitter-sweet symphony
    Playing with my taste buds

    And your warmth overwhelms me
Intoxicates me, makes me want to live again
Makes me want to dream, to fight, to sing
    To breathe

And I realize how much I love you
    My morning cup of coffee,
What would I do without you?
