  • X marks the spot

    X marks the spot

A slight chill teases the air
Behind a veil of silken mist
    Carelessly the trees they sway
    Dancing in the velvet breeze
Each moment ticks away so fast
Faster than your eyes may blink
Gorgeous, sparkling in the fire’s glow. I wonder
How they look so beautiful, so pretty
    In the meager light as I gaze upon them;
Just stare in amazement at your face,
    Knowing not how I’d spend
Life without you. Not even another
Moment need pass by without you by my side.

Needless, my words are now as my heart is
Open, my eyes connected with yours. I try to
Place my index finger on your
    Quivering lips; I know you
Realize what I’m about to do, as I
Show you this ring – I want to make you mine forever.

    Trembling, I hold your hand
Unsure of how you would react as I ask
Very slowly, if you’d marry me; each syllable making me
Weak in the knees. I watch your lips closely, right there –
    X marks the spot.

Yes! Validation at last as I see that beautiful smile
Zigzagging all over your face. One I love more than life itself.

    I’m on cloud nine.

  • In retrospect

    In retrospect

    The moment has passed
    That one you’ve been
    Waiting all your life;
    Your moment of truth
    Your chance to achieve greatness
    Your shot at eternal glory
Or a final attempt to find yourself.

    But the moment has passed.
    You tried your best
    But it wasn’t good enough;
    Not what you expected
    You’ve clearly missed your mark.
    No glory
    No greatness
    No fame.
    Another name bites the dust.

You try searching for a rewind button
To make it all go away
    The pain
    The madness
    The ifs and buts
The could be’s and would be’s
    But you can’t find it.
    Your time is up,
    The moment has passed.

    Now all that’s left
Is the twilight of the past
    And vivid memories
    Stories of days gone by
    Experiences to forget
    Or simply learn from.

    Here is your rewind button.

    When in retrospect,
    Choose wisely.

  • One Way Street

    One Way Street

I wrote this song in my early days as a writer, I found this tucked under some old posts. I’ve redone some lines to my liking.

    (verse one)

I’d been living in the past, trying to hide the pain
Holding on for dear life, crying in the rain
Life was a nightmare, I’d see wide awake
The loneliness and sorrow, was too much to take

Then you came along, became more than just a friend
I’d spend everyday, hoping the day would never end
And while we’d sit, we needn’t say a word
Your eyes were always begging to be heard

    (Chorus)

    I’m going fast, so fast
    Down this one way street
I hope to run into you
I hope you feel it too

    And it feels just right
    Me being here tonight
    I’m falling head over heels
Head over heels, in love with you!

    (verse two)

Would you show me some faith? What I have for you is deep
Make you mine forever, a promise I vow to keep
I finally found the reason, to turn my life around
My ship caught in the storm, has found solid ground

I wish to wake up to your lovely, radiant face
Lose myself in your charm, your cozy, sweet embrace
The more I have of you, the more I want everyday
You’ve become like a drug to me, I just can’t stay away

    (repeat chorus)

Head over heels, in love with you!

  • All my heart

    All my heart

I feel my heart beat for a while
Throbbing wildly in its bony cage
    Vibrations resonating across my hands
Surely a sign that I’m still alive?

Well, it used to be more than that, before
My heart knew of pain and loneliness
But, t’was capable of emotions far superior
    Fluttering with your every touch

You placed your palm upon my chest
And felt its rhythm; crests and troughs
For it would know safety once more
Only in the care of your arms

With every breath of air you’d take
My heart would quietly surge and swell
A gentle thump around my ribs
Your touch would make me feel this way

Alas! You went so far away…
Robbed it of its zeal to exist
    It felt like dying everyday
For want of reason to stay alive

My heart’s the only thing I have
To let you know how much I care
And with every breath I’ll give my best
To love you with all my heart.

  • There’s always hope

    There’s always hope

He keeps a picture of his wife
    Finding comfort in her eyes
    Their marriage ended long ago
His friends kept saying, “I told you so”

But he laughs it off with a candid smile
‘Coz he still wants to reconcile
Even though he’s on a slippery slope
He’s hanging on because there’s still hope

The waitress at the coffee shop
She serves a hundred; daily, non-stop
But every day her mind still lingers
She only wants to be a singer

Her day will come, she tells herself
As she keeps the cups upon the shelf
She holds on tight to all her hope
Maybe greatness is still within her scope

The runner holds aloft his beer
A broken knee once ended his career
One day he was right at the top
He felt like he would never stop

But the crushing blow, much to his grief
Stole everything like a greedy thief
Yet his spirit still lies with the game
    Finding comfort, all the same

Hope is naught but a silken thread
For one day you’re alive, and another dead
There may be good waiting in the wings
A golden day for better things

So don’t lose heart; don’t forget to breathe
There’s more to life than what lies beneath
And on days when it gets hard to cope
Don’t fret my dear, there’s always hope!

  • In a moment

    In a moment

    In a moment
    Feel your heart beat
    As your pulse races
    While you stand atop
    The world so high
    And look down
    Upon creation.

    Feel the moment
    When the tears flow
    There’s no stopping
    Wild emotion when
    The one thing
    You loved the most
    Is gone.

    Every moment
    He stands beside her
    While her smell
    Lingers on,
    Satisfaction;
    Somewhat like
    A slice of heaven?

    A quiet moment
    Inner peace
    So hard to find
    In the raucous crowd
    A single point
    That makes us
    Feel complete.

    Right in that instant
    A moment of sin
    So hard to break
    A promise well kept
    All gone away
    With a twisted smile,
    In a wisp of smoke.

    So many things
    To learn in life
    So easy, hard
    And in between
    But everything does
    It all begins
    In a moment.

  • Breaking the pattern

    Breaking the pattern

The world seems covered with streaks and dots
Like zebra stripes and parking spots
Getting used to staying within the lines
Of living inside, bound and confined

    Zombies; slaves of ticking clocks
Too afraid to think outside the box
So calculated each and every step
    Convoluted like a spiders web

What is it about oranges and apples?
Why can’t it be really plain and simple?
Why not listen closely to cacophony
You might just find your symphony

Does everything need to be kept in order?
    Making a mess isn’t quite a disorder
You may call it sloppy if it doesn’t look the part
Or you might just call it a work of art!

It may be easier said than done
But a method to madness? Where is the fun?
I live life on terms those are my own
Then maybe it’ll read on my tombstone

That here lies a man who did it all
Who hit his head, who had a great fall
But boy did he have fun along the ride
Breaking the pattern with every stride.

  • A book of faces

    A book of faces

I decided to take the edge off of this week’s writing challenge and turn it into something fun – a piece of poetry. I personally feel Facebook is a great forum for people to connect and share what they think online. It’s definitely great to have a social network around that will let you do a lot of cool stuff and hang out with friends and family who are far away geographically. People can get carried away with what they post and there could be security hassles, but you can’t take away the fact that it helps bring people closer.

Enough of the serious stuff. Time to enjoy some poetry. I call it “A book of faces”.

    A book of faces

I travel through this book of faces
A mix of time and many places
I come across a lovely smile
It makes me ponder for a while

That tickle of a funny joke
Or the childishness of a friendly poke
A birthday wish that warms the heart
Or hearty hope for a brand new start

Some witty puns, a clever status
A post from a friend after a long hiatus
A photo from a summer day
Or a note to mark a holiday

    A movie reel; a song I like
Or an adventure video from your latest hike
A cup in hand; you feel like a winner
Or just showing off your chicken dinner!

    Playing cards or throwing sheep
Or growing onions in your sleep
Laugh aloud to a brilliant gag
Or find yourself on a photo tag

You love or hate it; it’s all a choice
To me it’s where I find my voice
It may be a fad or a compelling obsession
To like or not to like; that is the question.

  • Finishing touch

    Finishing touch

I watch you brush your hair so gently
With one straight motion, from up to down
With every caress you tease my senses
As I look into your deep blue eyes

You twirl your fingers as you try to make up
    Your mind above everything else
Why, that layer of rouge on your rosy cheeks
A radiant blossom on a winter night

You apply a swish of purple haze
With a glint of glitter on your skin
    Together with the blackest black
Of your eyelashes; so perfectly thin

The reddest red of your lips so moist
Makes me feel like I want to kiss them
    So tempting, playful, fascinating
A dazzling sight for wanting eyes

And as you add another finishing touch
Stroke by stroke; you fail to realize
That beauty’s not defined by what you just made up
But lies in the eyes of the beholder.

  • Stuck in a rut

    Stuck in a rut

A lot of days just pass by
    Put though the grind
    They’re days of thoughtless actions
    Without much heart or mind

How cheaply we seem to live our life
And some of us don’t even care
It’s funny how we just don’t have
The time to stand and stare

Some have never read a book
They say they’re just too busy
Some prefer to work on weekends
No time to savor a melody

We choose to spend our day to simply
    Plan some more despair
When all we need are quiet times
    To reflect and repair

Oh what I’d give to spend a day
To just laze around in bed
To release the million thoughts I have
    Flowing in my head

Or look at some old photographs
Or just stay home and cook
Or spend time with a young loved one
Or unwind with a good book

Alas, I’m a prisoner of my own routine
My mind feels caged; closed shut
And like a zombie I live my life
    Stuck in a rut
